Artist Statement:

The first thing that gained my attention when I arrived in India was the over-honking, and more importantly my perception of this social norm, because Indians believe that humans are drown in their thoughts and honking makes them notice their surroundings. So behind vehicles it is written: “Ok, horn please”

This can be compared to the increasing show-off in the art world. Artists always want to draw others’ attentions. Perhaps imagining traffic without blowing horn is as much impossible as imagining the contemporary art world without any efforts to be seen, which nowadays is much more done by various tools such as visual advertising on social networks. A world filled with noise and visual propaganda, which is a reason for fading deep attention and cognition!

I made a Horn inspired by this situation in India. And it seems to me that this object is considered as an artwork and becomes meaningful, when in relation to the space, the environment and the people. In this work, I am making the people participate with the object besides its utilitarian purpose. This would be an on-going project. These photos which are the result of an interaction between me and Indians promise the beginning of a new series inspired by different aspects of Iran.
